In 2008, the Warren County Educational Foundation partnered with River Park Hospital in McMinnville to begin One Woman, One Life, One Difference - a breast cancer awareness, education and screening program that targeted women in Warren and adjacent counties of the Upper Cumberland. The primary goals of the program are to educate the public about breast health and to encourage at-risk women to have regular mammography screenings beginning at age 40. This program has made, and will continue to make, a difference in the Warren County community. In its third year, the program served a record number of participants in both the education and screening aspects.
In 2012, the program will continue to be promoted in educational venues throughout the community and to target women age 40 and older with screenings. Warren County Educational Foundation’s WCPI-FM Radio will continue their year-round awareness campaign devoted to breast health education and awareness. Additionally, River Park Hospital will provide 130 diagnostic mammography screenings to those who meet insurance, residency and income guidelines. The program will continue to be promoted through special events such as River Park Hospital’s Mammograms by Moonlight and the Warren County Fair. Additionally in 2012, program coordinators will begin reaching out to the Hispanic and at-risk male populations of Warren County with focused educational literature and support services.
The hopes are that residents of Warren County and the Upper Cumberland will become more educated about Susan G. Komen Upper Cumberland, breast health and breast cancer; that all of the free screenings will be given out before March 2013; and that news of the program will reach even more of the at-risk population in the community.
