Affiliate Spotlight

Top Volunteers!

Tee It UpGeorge and Angela Regitko have worked as a team for the past three years to chair the “Tee it up for the Cure” Golf Classic.  This has been a really popular and highly regarded event.  The Tournament was held on April 24th at the Cookeville Golf Club. Due to George and Angela’s vision, drive, energy and wonderful committed committee members this has been a really great fund and awareness raiser for our Affiliate. We are so thankful to have people who are so knowledgeable and talented as top of the line volunteers for our Affiliate. “Thank You” George and Angela!

Upper Cumberland Komen Affiliate first annual Race for the Cure!

The Upper Cumberland Affiliate hosted the first Upper Cumberland Race for the Cure, October 17, 2009. We had 1200 participants and raised over $75,000!  It was a truly exciting and uplifting event. Please start planning to join us next year for our second annual Race for the Cure! Race results for timed runners are on the Race registration page.

Upper Cumberland Komen Speakers Bureau

Komen believes that hometown speakers who have walked the proverbial walk are the best people to talk the breast cancer talk.  To that end, we here in the Upper Cumberland Affiliate have worked to establish Komen-trained speakers in local communities available for presentations to groups interested in eliminating breast cancer in our time.  The best speaker is a local survivor.  We are continually working to train such speakers.  We have trained volunteers in Putnam, White and Cumberland counties.  They are available to present to area church, work or civic groups free of charge. Don’t worry if your group is small:  we welcome the opportunity to interact with 4-6 women as well as a big auditorium full of people in an intimate and informal or public setting, whichever,  for the purpose of spreading the word about breast cancer.  Our goal is to have trained presenters in all of the fourteen UC counties just waiting for a call.
